Unlike door-to-door sales or telephone solicitation, affiliate sales is not scripted for the salesperson. The freedom to design and create content that visitors find worthwhile is unique to Internet marketing. Whether the creation is information that compels the reader to click links on a sidebar to affiliated sponsors, or if the affiliated sponsor links are incorporated in the text of the article, is solely up to the owner of the web site. Most affiliate sponsors only require that the content of the site not be pornographic, illegal, or promote hate. Aside from those reasonable limitations, the design and creation is totally within the site owner's control.

Many have learned the lessons taught by major corporations that large is not necessarily better, and companies will not necessarily remain loyal to its employees. Downsizing, outsourcing, and placing blame are all corporate realities. It is false security to rely upon paychecks and retirement accounts for long-term financial security. Factors such as longer life expectancy and inflation make these types of plans fruitless in so much as these realities erode the value of Social Security entitlements and the value of money put in retirement accounts.

It was not that long ago that being a millionaire put a person in exclusive company. Today, millionaires are rather common, and only denote a level of success that eventually will not be sufficient to maintain lavish lifestyles. A mere thirty years ago, a million dollars would buy dozens of homes. Today, it will buy three or four. Homes have not gone up in value; inflation has decreased the value of a million dollars. With Social Security entitlements rising at the rate of drips, while money devalues at the rate of torrential rain storms, it, too, is false security. More and more people today are greeting customers and bagging groceries to supplement the meager stipends given as entitlements we know as pensions and Social Security.

A person is wise to create streams of revenue while employed, and few streams of revenue have the potential of self employment. Few opportunities for self employment require less risk than creative web site development coupled with affiliate marketing. As money devalues, commissions paid for sales will rise. The stream not only can last a lifetime, but it will naturally hedge inflationary factors. If the stream becomes a river, the person who once fantasized of being his or her own boss will become financially secure, and able to live a dream come true!
