Is your home fireproof? Sure everyone buys flame retardant or fireproof items, but what about the items already had? Are they fireproof or they so old you don't even remember? There are a lot of things you can do to fireproof your items at home.
Tis the season, of coarse Christmas is over but if you have a real tree keep it watered. Do not let it dry out or it will become very flammable. Place your precious gifts away form heating ducts and vents. If you hang your stocking at a real fire place make sure they don't hang to low.
One thing that has happened to me is candles. If you have a candle burning make sure you have it on a plate or ceramic holder to protect the area from heat from the bottom of the candle. If you have a three wick candle be very careful when candle wax is getting low. The one I had exploded when the glass got to hot and it got wax all over the place and caught my nightstand on fire. I'm just glad I was close by to hear it and not in the shower.
Yes most oven mitts are heat resistant but if you set them on a burner that was recently on they will catch on fire. Try to avoid sitting anything on the oven at any time that does not belong there. If you are working on a recipe keep the cookbook away from the oven top burners. You never know when the oven may get a short in the top burners and ignite whatever you have setting on the oven.
There will always be a danger when it comes to fire and safety. You need to know how and when to address the issue to make you and your family safe. Please make sure you have an escape route for all your family members in the event of a fire. Your family should have a meeting place in case of misplacement. If you have pets you should get one of those stickers to put on your front door showing the fire department you have pets. We can't forget our little ones.
