Now here's a movie to write home about. I give "Office Space" a 9 out of 10. I would have given it a perfect ten but I didn't care for some of the music.
"Office Space" is based on a series of short cartoons by Mike Judge, creator of "Bevis and Butthead" and "King of The Hill," about an unhappy office worker named Milton. While the "Milton" shorts are funny, "Office Space" blows them away.
Starring Ron Livingston as the disgruntled office worker, Peter and jennifer Anniston as his sometime girlfriend, Joanna, "Office Space" works on 9314 different levels at the same time.
The plot. Peter, like every office slob since Caesar's accountant, hates his job. unlike the rest of us, yes, I'm one too, Peter get hypnotized and "set free" from his worries. As the rest of the world continues madly on, Peter just unwinds, at least until Drew, a fellow worker, tells him a terrible secret about Joanna.
The characters. I don't have enough space. The Bobs! Lumberg! Micheal Bolton! Diedrich Bader as the construction worker next door. They are all a scream! Really. Even writer and director Mike Judge makes an appearance as a totally annoying store manager. "Is this about my flair?"
The Culture. "Office Space" bred it's own culture in America. You can buy Lumburg posters at the mall. In the movie Milton is very concerned about the fate of his red Swingline stapler. At the time, there was no such thing as a red Swingline stapler. Now, you can buy them online. In my office, giving someone a red Swingline is tandamount to a marriage proposal.
What else? There's the lady with the annoying voice that you can hear everywhere; the two programers who can't run their own printer; Kung Fu.
"Looks like you've been missing a lot of work Peter."
"Well. I wouldn't say I've been missing it."
Too grouchy to see this hysterical movie even after this glowing review? Looks like someone's got a case of the Monday's.
