Mike Tyson seemed to have it all when he first hit the headlines. He was an immensely talented boxer and it looked as though he would be unbeatable. For a few brief years that is how it was. But since it has been one disaster after another.

His problem stems from the fact that he was a poor boy made good without the necessary management or education to teach him how to cope with what came his way. The fame and the fortune were all too much. He was unable to handles the stress and strain of being thrown into the global limelight.

There have been accusations of assault and rape. He has even served a prison term. Then there was the infamous ear biting incident in the ring. He has certainly not covered himself in glory, not behaved like a world champion.

So, how has it all gone so spectacularly wrong? How has he squandered all the millions he earned and seen his reputation badly battered, on a scale that his early opponents suffered? The money, the drugs, the booze and the women came easily once he became famous and successful. But instead of giving him the comfortable life his efforts deserved, he was surrounded by temptation. Hangers on did little to point him in the right direction. He has wasted a God-given talent. He seems to be an uncontrollable accident waiting to happen. That someone with so much natural talent has ended up like he has is truly sad.
