Feline Diabetes is a real issue for cats. Lately it has become more commonly diagnosed, especially in overweight and older cats. If Feline Diabetes is caught early, it has become a very treatable condition. The important thing is to look for the early warning signs that your cat needs treatment. Some signs to look for include the following:
RAPID WEIGHT LOSS: If your cat can't process the glucose it's body is producing, he or she will begin losing weight. You may think your cat is just getting healthy again, but don't be fooled. If your cat begins to lose weight quickly, get to the vet.
INCREASED URINATION AND THIRST: Always keep an eye on the litter box. If your cat is peeing more than usual, there may be a problem. The same goes for drinking. If he or she is consuming water faster than normal, see a vet.
EXCESSIVE VOMITING: Most cats vomit occasionally. Cat owners know this. But if your cat is vomiting more than usual, they may be sick.
DECREASED APPETITE: Is your cat eating less than usual? This is usual the sign of a problem.
DECREASE IN STRENGTH OR ACTIVITY: If you cat is suddenly sleeping more than usual or seems to have weakness in his or her body, they may be sick. Go see a vet.
INCREASED VOCALIZATION: If your cat is meowing much more than usual, they are probably trying to tell you something is wrong.
RECLUSIVENESS: If your social cat is suddenly hiding under the bed or behind the couch all the time, this is a good indicator that they don't feel right. It's time for a trip to the vet.
These are just a few warning signs that your cat doesn't feel right. Cats aren't always good about letting their caretakers know when they don't feel good. Some times they will meow and complain, and you know something is wrong. But other times, the signs will be more subtle. Keep a close eye on your cat, especially if he or she is overweight or getting up there in years. If you're worried about anything, it's always best to see a vet and catch a problem early. It may save your cat's life.
