How to reduce anxiety through meditation

Anxiety and stress are the hot-buttons and the panacea in our business world today. If you're not up to par, blame it on stress or anxiety. Take a pill, have a drink...go to the spa. If your boss is unhappy with your work or a project, use the excuse of stress and all is forgiven if not forgotten. You just need to take a break. Everything will be better when you return to task. This is a white lie. You need to distance yourself from the situation and the stressors so that you can think clearly. This is a totally different course of action. Some rely on meditation. This works if you manage to achieve it. Most people merely TRY to meditate. It becomes just another task to accomplish. Failure is imminent.

Everyone has anxiety or stress in their lives. We all strive to escape from that stress or find a "cure" for the anxiety. Nature tells us otherwise. Stress is a very natural reaction to anxiety-producing situations. The "cure" has nothing to do with avoidance. The pill that works best is to clear your head and approach the entire project with a fresh set of ideas or process. Often, leaving a tedious task for a few moments for a cup of coffee or a short walk around the office gives one the space necessary for clearer thinking.

Doctors may tell you to remove yourself from the stressful situation by asking for a different position or leaving your place of employment for somewhere "less stressful." Most of us are not in a position to pick up and go elsewhere. We have to learn to deal with our reactions to the situation.

If we are honest with ourselves, there are very few situations that we cannot change by action rather than reaction to the stressors. Any action is better than inaction or reaction...similar to any decision is better than no decision at all. The worst part of any anxiety is the fear of the unknown or the expectations placed upon us.

Take a look in the mirror. You are a person with good ideas, training, and the ability to handle any set of circumstances that the job hands you. Your employer hired you because you presented yourself as a person of knowledge and ability. You have to believe that your employer saw what you presented as your abilities. You have to believe in yourself and your ability to handle the project given to you.

How do you handle stress?
1. Look the task/project head-on and accept it for what it is-the perception of an impossible or unachievable task, or the unrealistic timeline within which the task/project must be finished.
2. Make a
