I'm really new to blogging and website building, but it seems to me that if you want to do affiliate marketing, blogging may be the way to go. I'm not saying that it is, I'm just suggesting you look at the pros and cons of using a blog for affiliate marketing.
First, a blog is free. It doesn't cost anything to set up except your time. I know time is money, but in this case I think it well worth the time. It doesn't take that much time to set up your blog. A website is much more time consuming in my opinion. I finished setting up my blog in an afternoon except for the AdSense ads I was placing on my blog. That was because I had no idea what I was doing. I'd never worked with html before and I had the code in the wrong place. Its been a couple of months since I started with the blog and I thought I'd try doing a website. I'm enjoying it, but there's a lot more work that needs to go into a website than a blog.
Now, traffic is the name of the game when you're trying to make money on the net. AdSense, affiliate programs, as well as a website need traffic to make money. I found FeedBurner and blog directories. Both are good ways to generate traffic. These are free, too. They have upgrades, but right now the name of my game is FREE.
I'm setting up a blog that will be an affiliate marketing platform. I've discovered GoldenCAN another free service (well, almost free, no money changes hands, they just take the profit from every 4th click with some affiliate programs; others are free) that sets up catalogs for your affiliates with a link that makes them look like they are on your site. They have quite a good selection of affiliate programs on their site. You join the affiliate programs they're linked to and they set up the catalog.
Right now if it's free I like it, mostly, there are some free sites I don't care for.
