Strange but efficient job-hunting techniques

Today's competition in the job market can be fierce, but with the right approach to hunting for a job, you can stand out among the competition!

To really stand out, you have to identify some job-search techniques that are a little different than the standard processes. Start by thinking about the profession or industry you are interested in and then decide what would make you stand out. What do you have to offer that others can't offer? How can you demonstrate your expertise, creativity, and enthusiasm?

SCHEDULE YOUR OWN INTERVIEW

It may sound strange, but you can call and set up an interview for yourself without even being called by a potential employer! Many employers are willing to conduct informational interviews and share information about their company. This is a great way to get your foot in the door and you never know where it may lead.

NETWORK

Networking is one of the best ways to create contacts that may pay-off in the future. Talk to friends, acquaintances, current or previous coworkers, and others who know you. Rather than rely solely on websites, consider sending your resume directly to the hiring employer through "snail mail" at the same time. Rather than put it in your typical business envelope, choose an over-sized, brightly colored envelope that will stand out. Red with white type is an idea that is a real attention grabber. Matching resume paper and cover letter are highly recommended!

CREATIVE PACKAGING

If you're looking for a job in a particular industry, such as a chef in the food industry, package your resume accordingly. Enclose your resume on textured paper in a box shaped like a food entree. Design an outside cover that uses your name and information as part of the box. Include your skills and experience in the "ingredients" section and let your mind run wild from there. Include a napkin with your name and email address imprinted on it, along with other utensils or creative ideas that complement the
