How to make a cell phone cozy

Cell phones are all the rage. These days, even most adolescents deem a personal cell phone an actual necessity, rather than the luxury it was considered a few years ago. Right or wrong, there's no arguing that cell phones are considered important items.

Cell phones can also be rather expensive items, and it seems like every few months a new design comes out. So when something so fragile, so important, and so expensive, is an everyday item, it's a good idea to protect it.

Most shops sell costly, plastic, cell phone covers that can help protect the actual phone. They come in tons of assorted colors and designs. However, even these sometimes don't provide the protection needed.

Cell Phone cozies are a great solution to both the protection and expense problems. Cozies are simple to make, easy to customize, and work wonderfully for keeping a phone safe.

If you know how to knit or crochet, making a cozy is a simple task of stitching, washing, and shrinking the cozy. Make sure to use a soft, but strong yarn. Basic wool yarn will be scratchy and can really damage phone screens.

If you don't know how to knit or crochet, try this method:

STANDARD COZY

- A standard cell phone cozy is a breeze to make. First, you'll need a pretty fabric to make the outer covering for the cozy. For the inside fabric, you're going to need something soft and thick, like felt, that won't scratch the phone. Soft cotton cloth with quilt backing works too, as does fur, or any other soft and thick fabric.

- The felt/cloth should not only keep things from scratching the phone, but should help cushion it in case it gets dropped. So it's really important to choose a *soft* and *thick* fabric for this part of the cozy. Or use craft stuffing and stuff the padding between the two fabrics before sewing the top hem closed.

- Measure the fabric, cutting out a slightly bigger size that matches the cell phone shape. About 1 inch extra on three sides, and 2 inches extra on the side that will be an opening. You will need to cut the felt/cloth out, and a matching piece of the decorative fabric.

- For a shortcut, don't cut the bottom part of the fabric, just fold it over and the bottom seam of the cozy is done. Pin the felt and decorative fabric together, so that the felt is inside, and the fabric is an outer covering.

- BUT, since for sewing, the material needs to be inside out, the felt will be outside and the decorative fabric will be inside. Then when the cozy is flipped inside out again, the felt and visible seams
