Depression can have a number of causes with a wide range of symptoms. From feelings of loneliness to alienation; from sadness to chest pain; fatigue; hunger; lack of appetite; headaches; joint and muscle pains; digestive issues; feeling worthless; these are only a few of the symptoms that affect a person who is suffering from physical depression.

Physical causes of depression are illness, medications, stress, fatigue, nutritional deficiencies, lack of activity, alcohol and drug abuse to name a few. The stress of being pregnant can lead to depression. The daily strife of family life or work and lead to depression. Not having a venue to communicate unhappiness can lead to stress and therefore depression. Being over weight or under weight can lead to stress; eating disorders often lead to depression. Certain fears and phobias can lead to depression, financial problems and educational conflicts can lead to stress that in turn causes depression. Certain professions are considered very depressing. Grief and heart break can lead to depression. The list of physical causes of depression could go on for some time.

What ever the physical reason for depression it is a serious but treatable condition. Often people prefer to deny that they are suffering from depression. The stigma is that depression is a mental disorder and they fear being labeled as not being fully sane.
