Music is losing its 'depth'

I heartily agree. At the moment we are plagued on the radio stations by artists doing covers. Where has the originality gone?

I am a big fan of music and like to hear new and original content. The odd cover every now and again is a wonderful refreshing ideal to old memories associated with that song. Sometimes covers versions crossing genre can also be entertaining (i have a wonderful Japanese pop version of video killed the radio star). But there is a limit to how much i can take.

Am i getting old already? All i see is kids these days listening to hyped up versions of songs that were brilliant in their own time. I'm only 26 myself. Its a bit behind my era, but i am a big fan of 80's music(OMD, Alison Moyet, Yazoo, Flock Of Seagulls, Human league, Big Country etc) to name but a few. It pains me to hear old music reconstituted and processed.

Don't get me wrong there are many good new songs and good new material out there, but has music developed to that point now where new ideas are so radical that the masses reject them? Back int he 70s and 80s we had music that spanned the genres and showed a good amount of musical skill and creativity - from powerful progressive rock, to technological advances and creative use of new technology with synthesised music. Now it seems like music is all developed by computers. Some of his material has creative merit. Others in my opinion is re-constituted garbage. But what is next i wonder? Will the music industry have a massive turn around in its development? I hope so :)
