A staggering two-thirds of the American population is overweight, and as the new year rolls around it seems like every commercial on TV is geared towards offering some sort of weight loss solution. Gyms, weight loss centers, nutrition websites, they all want you to join. After all, losing weight is the single most proclaimed new years resolution, and come January, corporate America is fully ready to take advantage of your 'new year, new start' attitude.
But perhaps the most enticing offer of all comes from the makers of a little tiny pill; one that will magically dissolve your fat without you having to put forth any sort of extra effort. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, that's because it is! Yet somehow, these pills are flying off store shelves like crazy. America is desperate. We know we're fat and though we may have good intentions, the bottom line is that we want to lose our weight as quickly and effortlessly as possible. The Obesity Research Institute LLC, the maker and distributer of Lipozene, is fully aware of this. Toting their product as the best on the market, with people losing 78 per cent of pure body fat per pound, their claims have been disproven again and again. The actual amount of weight loss achieved is an average of 3 pounds in 8 weeks, far less than their "30 pounds in 2 months" testimonials. The claims have been proven so bogus that the Federal Trade Commission has heavily fined the makers of Lipozene and required they report the 3 pound/8 week average in their commercials, albeit in fine print. What's more? Lipozene is filled with merely nothing more than glucomannan, a form of fiber. Hardly sounds like a miracle drug now, does it not?
So what can you do to lose weight quickly? Well, you may not want to hear it, but healthy eating and daily exercise seems to do the trick for most, as long as you stay dedicated. The fact is, losing weight too quickly is harmful to your health, and your chances of gaining the weight right back are higher than keeping it off for good.
Let's start with the basics. To gain one pound of fat, a person would need to consume 3,500 calories. Therefore, to lose one pound of fat, you would have to cut out and/or burn off 3,500 calories. A safe starting point is to try and cut out 300 calories of food a day, and take a 30 minute walk, which will burn about 200 calories. Easy options to cut out calories include holding the mayo, drinking one less sugary soda a day, and to try fruit for desert instead of ice cream.
