feel good about themselves. A strong sense of support from the people around them will allow them to find ways to deal with problems they may face without resorting to simply drowning them with alcohol. Not only is this supporting cast able to help prevent a possible turn towards alcoholic behavior, but they will be there for the person that is unable to stop themselves. Friends and family that care about you will always be willing to do whatever they can for you when you are in trouble. Building strong relationships with loving and caring people will not only help you when it comes to habitual drinking, but they will make life easier in general every day.
Stress can be another subject that can trigger a poor habit such as drinking. Stress relief should be a priority whether you think you may be at risk for developing alcoholism or not. Finding ways to deal with the feelings that will naturally build up through dealing with difficult situations is an extremely smart and healthy thing to do. Not only will it reduce the chance that you will search for a crutch such as alcohol but it will make you less irritable in your every day life. Find an activity that lets you release built up stress while being able to relax. For some people this means taking a day every now and then to hit the golf course, for some it is simply a day off from work and sleeping in until noon. No matter what the activity is it is important to allow yourself to release stress because of the many negative effects it can have on your life, such as building dependences on dangerous activities such as regularly drinking too much.
So for those of you who are not at risk of developing alcoholism, congratulations on managing your life and developing relationships to help you through difficult times. For those of you who may be starting to develop alcoholic behaviors, it is not too late to build a social network of people who are willing to help you and find a way to relieve excess stress. For the unfortunate people who have already succumbed to alcoholism, it is still not too late to seek help from loved ones. If they are not willing to help there are always people out there who share your problem and also your desire to fix it. Groups such as AA may be difficult to join at first, but consider what you are risking by not going. Many people will agree that alcoholism is not an addiction, but a disease. Just like any other disease we must do what we can to prevent it before it hits us. If we are unlikely enough to catch this virus, then just like any other disease we must take step to get over it as soon as possible. Just remember that there are always people out there who care about you, so don't be afraid to ask for help when it is absolutely necessary, because they will never refuse to help you through the difficult times when you need them the most.
