Seeding and dicing a tomato is easy for many but can be a challenge for those with not so great knife skills. Once you have done this a couple of times, you will become a pro as it is rather easy to do. Just make sure that you handle the knife safely and correctly. Here is the way to handle a knife correctly...
* First hold the item that you are going to cut securely with the one hand having your fingertips tucked under and your thumb behind them.
* Allow the blades of the knife to gently glide through the item you are cutting holding the knife vertically.
* As you cut make sure you are watching carefully to what you are doing!
* Keep in mind that a well sharpened knife is easier to use rather then a dull one.
Here are some helpful tips to seed and dice a tomato.
* SLICE THE BOTTOM OF THE TOMATO OFF FIRST.
Turning the tomato upside down gently slice the bottom off (paper thin) This is a great way to prevent your tomato from sliding around as you are cutting it.
* SET THE TOMATO UPRIGHT
Now you want to turn the tomato over right side up and sit it on a flat clean surface.
* LAY YOUR KNIFE FLAT WITH THE SHARP SIDE FACING DOWN AGAINST YOUR TOMATO
When you have the knife positioned correctly as stated above gently slice into a c shape along all the outside layers of the peel,it will look like petals that are coming off the tomato. Do this until all the sides of the tomato are sliced and only the middle of the tomato is left.
* USE A SMALL SPOON TO REMOVE THE SEEDS FROM THE CENTER OF THE TOMATO
Carefully gathering all the seeds in the middle with a small spoon discard all of the seeds. If there are any remaining seems on the petals of your tomato's simply and carefully scrap them off with the tip of your knife and discard of them.
* GENTLY FLATTEN EACH PETAL ONE AT TIME ON A FLAT SURFACE
Gently pushing down on the tomato to help make it easier to dice try and make it as flat as you can using your fingers doing only one at a time.
* SLICE YOUR PETAL OR WEDGE INTO 1/2 INCH STRIPS
Carefully slicing your tomato petal slice it into 1/2 inch strips running your knife lengthwise on the tomato.
* HOLD THE TOMATO STRIPS TOGETHER AND DICE THEM INTO 1/2 INCH CUBES
With each tomato wedge hold the strips you created together carefully and easily slice the tomato into 1/2 inch cubes. When you have one wedge or petal down set it aside in a bowl and move onto the next until you are finished.
