Everyone says that we're not but you have to look at how these three candidates ever got to this place to begin with if we truly weren't. I think the real question is whether or not we really want to admit that we are, or even if we are truly ready for the rest of America to be ready for change in spite of the fact that we are ourselves. It evokes old arguments about race and a cynicism that some things may never change; yet at the end of the day they always tend to change when few are truly ready for it or can really appreciate it.
You can't wait for America to "be ready" when it comes to change. Some people never will be ready, and you can't worry or concern yourself about them. Will "middle America" or people in America's "heartland" our "great plains" or the Midwest ever be ready; probably not, save for those in our largest cities there or in more progressive areas like Minnesota. But does that mean that I'm not going to put myself behind these candidates, of course not.
I'm still confused as to what Obama's real initiative is, if he has a real plan or if he isn't just a modern, charismatic Kennedy, the likes of which you'll know long after, at the right time in the right setting, as to what he is really going to do for America. This probably means that I should take a deeper look into his policies to really understand where is coming from. Some do not want to see him succeed simply because he isn't a Christian and isn't coming from the traditional channels that are associated with power and progress in the African-American community, but this may be exactly why he is so popular at the moment; he says he's Muslim, but isn't making a big deal out of religion at all, or civil rights, and this may allow him to get through where other leaders in the community can't.
As far as Hillary about all I know is that I do have some confidence in her expertise; though many say she is a socialist in hiding and wants to bring about changes in America that may or may not really be all that bad at the end of the day. Huckabee I simply can't comment on at all I just haven't been following him whatsoever; I was too caught up in whether or not Edwards would make any waves, and I think that time has come and gone.
Some in America are ready for change and some aren't. Yet the one's who are voting are perhaps the only one's that will truly demand change, and at the end of the day that is what is truly important. Without that, yeah, it'll be another 50 years or so before anything is ever accomplished ...
