NFL talk: Who was the best Super Bowl quarterback of all time?

The Best of The Best Quarterbacks of NFL Super Bowls

There have been sixteen quarterbacks in NFL Super Bowls that have been amazing enough to be voted Most Valuable Player. The best quarterback would have to be one of these sixteen incredible athletes. Of those sixteen, I've come up with ten that really stand out.

1. Joe Montana - Montana, in my opinion is, by far the most remarkable quarterback to ever play in the NFL Super Bowl. He's currently the only quarterback to receive three Most Valuable Player awards in the Super Bowl. He also had a 75.86% pass completion records for one of the Super Bowls and stands in second place for the most touchdown passes in a single Super Bowl with five completed touchdown passes.

2. Steve Young - You may ask yourself after reading about Joe Montana, "if Montana is in second place for most completed touchdown passes in a single Super Bowl, then who's first?" That's right, it's Steve Young with a total of six touchdown passes in one Super Bowl game.

3. Terry Bradshaw - A two-time Most Valuable Player of the Super Bowl, Bradshaw went to the Super Bowl with his Pittsburgh Steelers four times and is tied with two others for third place in the number of touchdown passes in the Super Bowl at 4.

3. Tom Brady - Yes, you read this correctly. I think that Brady and Bradshaw are tied for third for the best NFL Super Bowl quarterback of all time. Also a two-time Most Valuable Player, Brady holds the record for the most completed passes in the Super Bowl at an astounding 32 completed passes and is ranked second in the most passing yards in one Super Bowl.

5. Phil Simms - I rank Phil Simms at number five for one reason. Simms holds the record for the highest pass completion percentage in a Super Bowl. In fact, he has this record by a long shot! Simms completed an amazing 88% of his passes in Super Bowl XXI. The next in line is Joe Montana with a completion rating of 75.86% in a single Super Bowl.

6. Bart Starr - Starr was also a two-time MVP in the Super Bowl. He was the first MVP and the first one to do it twice in a row. Starr completed a total of 37 passes in both of these Super Bowls combined for a total of 452 yards. I don't think anyone can mention "Super Bowl" and "quarterback" without mentioning this legend.

7. Troy Aikman - Aikman led the Dallas Cowboys to three Super Bowl victories, achieving the MVP award one of those times. He's tied for third place for completing 4 touchdown passes in a single Super Bowl.

8. Doug Williams - Williams led the Washington Redskins to a Super Bowl win and achieved MVP. He's in third place for two Super Bowl records: completing 4 touchdown passes in a single Super Bowl throwing for a total of 340 yards in completed passes.

8. Kurt Warner - Warner holds the record for the most passing yards in a Super Bowl with 414 completed yards and completed 24 passes in that game.

10. Peyton Manning - While he didn't break any records in Super Bowl XLI, he achieved second place in number of completed passes by completing a total of 25 passes.

While I feel that these are the top ten, there are six other quarterbacks that achieved the MVP title of the Super Bowl and I feel should be mentioned as members of "the best" in Super Bowl history. They are: Joe Namath of New York Jets, Len Dawson of the Kansas City Chiefs, Roger Staubach of the Dallas Cowboys, Jim Plunkett of the Oakland Raiders, Mark Rypien of the Washington Redskins, and John Elway of the Denver Broncos.
