However, one of the downsides of Bookmark Synchroniser is that it always overwrites the server with the client when uploading and, conversely, overwrites the client bookmarks with those from the server when uploading. If you have a tendency to leave FireFox running on more than one machine (perhaps leaving your office PC locked overnight and then getting online at home) you can accidentally lose bookmarks from one location or the other.

FoxMarks, by comparison, does not suffer from this problem. Rather than overwriting the bookmarks on the client or the server, FoxMarks merges the data (providing appropriate prompts to the user if there is not an obvious course of action). By only posting changes from one instance of Firefox to another, FoxMarks allows you to keep your bookmarks safe and synchronised across multiple browsers on multiple machines without the risk of losing bookmarks if the machines/browsers are all running at the same time. You can also access your FoxMarks bookmarks online, via foxmarks.com, and download them into a completely new installation of FireFox using the extension.

FoxMarks, in my opinion, is the best option for a FireFox user in terms of protecting and making best use of their bookmarks by having them available from any machine with an Internet connection.
