Short stories: The Valentine mystery

Missing Conversation Heart

Suspects:
Jasmine
Alexia
San dra
Paula

Valentines Day was approaching. I could not wait to see if Brian had gotten roses for me! He invited me to the "Conversation Hearts" Junior High dance. I have helped out on the committee, and we made every kind of heart imaginable. Now, we are working on the Conversation inscriptions.

"Jordan, could you help me with this one? My calligraphy is terrible!" said Jasmine.

"Sure! I'll be right over. My hand is getting pretty tired." I replied.

Together, Jasmine, Alexia, and I worked creatively finding the right messages to leave on each heart.
Sandra and Paula were working on setting up the refreshment stands and decorating them. Around eight o'clock at night, we picked up the trash around the gym and sat back looking at the splendor!

My eyes widened as I realized one heart was missing! I personally had written something only Brian would understand. I frantically began searching around for it.

"Hey girls! Can you help me find Brian's heart?" I asked anxiously.

Thirty minutes had passed and we had to get home before our parents grounded us. Jasmine and I left together. We lived close, and decided to walk. Alexia, Sandra, and Paula were waiting for their parents. They stood outside by the doors waiting. We all waved goodbye as Jasmine and I walked.

"Jordan, I am sorry we could not find your heart. I know how hard you worked on it." Jasmine apologized.

"It's alright." I said a bit disappointed. "I will look again tomorrow during and after school."

The next day at school, everyone was excitedly talking about the dance. The girls and I were getting compliments on the decorations! We were happy. I had checked the gym once more before classes started. No heart.

I ran into Paula before class and described the heart to her. She said she had not seen it. "Do you remember where you hung it up? Did you put it on the wall instead?" she asked. Trying to help me remember.

" I specifically hung it up in the middle of the gym. I wanted it to stand out so Brian would see it first."
I replied.

Lunch was about to start and I headed over to sit with Brian. He noticed I was upset. "Hey Jordan. Are you ok?" he asked.

"Yes, I lost something and cannot find it." I answered.

"Is there any way I can help you? What was it?" he asked.

"No. I am sure I'll remember soon." I replied, not wanting to give in and tell him.

A few minutes into lunch, I overheard Paula tell Sandra and Jasmine, "It's in my locker. I'll get it out just before the dance. They
