Childhood obesity has been a huge problem for a long time now, and if parents and other caregivers want to see their children live longer, healthier lives, they should take some precautions to stop this childhood obesity epidemic right now. It does not have to be hard, and with a few simple tips you could be on your way to having a healthier child, both physically and spiritually.
1) If your child is obese, admit that the problem exists. So many times, parents want to believe that their children are perfect and never make mistakes. While being obese does not make a child imperfect, parents should remind themselves that helping the child will benefit them in so many ways, ranging from preventing health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, arthritis, and even some forms of cancer. The child will also feel better emotionally, knowing they did something they could be proud of after accomplishing this goal.
2)Be a role model for your children. Children are much more likely to do something if they see their parents and other family members doing it. Gradually decrease fatty foods with healthy foods in the cupboards, and anywhere else you store food. Know your child's habits when they look around for food. Make a habit of switching to a healthful diet yourself, and soon, the child will adopt your healthy ways.
3) Encourage your child to play outdoors, or even to get some exercise indoors instead of allowing them to watch hours of television, play video games, and go surfing the web. When it is spring or summer, suggest to the family that they take a walk or play a game of ball. The children will not even notice that they are exercising because families will also be spending some much-needed quality time together. When children exercise, just as adults do, they immediately gain more energy, and so many studies have proven that when a child has a clear mind and could concentrate, they likely will do very well in school. If your child's school either has no physical fitness department, or the department is shrinking (no pun intended) to cut budget costs, talk to the school principal or whomever is in charge of programs and activities at the school. It will probably help if you get a group of parents together and make a trip to the school. Explain to them that healthy children are happy children.
4) Give your children healthier snacks, such as rice cakes instead of chips, and raisins instead of cake or candy. Eating sugar-loaded snacks causes
