In my opinion this is a one sided argument. I have always believed that true courage can only come from an understanding of a situation. A person who weighs the risks against what is to gain will always make the right decision. Their is a difference between courage and ignorance. A person who is willing to throw themselves into any situation without determining that it is worth the dangers can only find one thing; an early death.
Many people complain that they are intelligent enough to come up with genius ideas that could help not only themselves but many other people in the world but they are not brave enough to put their idea into action. This situation has absolutely nothing to do with courage. In this situation this person is not lacking courage. They are, in fact, lacking only wisdom. A truly wise person will see how much their is to gain by them implementing their ideas and theories. They will also how much of a waste it would be for them to sit at home working up ideas that will never be put to use. An unwillingness to act can be traced back only to a lack of understanding that shows a shortage of wisdom.
True wisdom is said to be achieved through experience. The situations we experience as a child provide the basis of knowledge that we will take with us on our journey into the real world. It is the situations that come after this time period, and more importantly how we react to them, that will allow us to grow each day and build a strong foundation of wisdom to better prepare us for such situations in the future. Wisdom is nothing more than an understanding of how the world works. It is knowledge of the cause and effect relationship. Knowing exactly, or at least having a strong idea, of what will happen when you make a decision is the wisdom that allows courage to shine through. A person who understands the risks associated with an activity and decides that the reward outweighs the risk are the truly courageous ones, not the ignorant people who are willing to try anything once without thinking about the possibility that this little stunt may be their last.
So the question is not whether courage or wisdom is more important. The question is do you have the wisdom to understand that they are really the same thing?
