Destin Harbor ranked as one of the top ten in America by Coastal Living magazine. They put on some mighty fine harbor events every year too. I'm gonna let you in on a couple of Harbor secrets if you promise not to tell.

One of the best places to snorkel is right off the jetties by the Harbor Marina. One of the coolest most secluded beaches is on the Harbor side of Holiday Isle. It is right next to the small jetty and a great place to picnic or to enhance a little romance. If beach life or water sports are new to you the Harbor is the perfect place to learn. Holiday Isle acts as a barrier so the waters are calm and easy to navigate. Some of the best fishing I've done is along the jetties off Harbor Walk Marina and near the Bay Bridge.

AJ's on the Harbor is not just a great place to get a drink but the views of the Harbor just don't get better. If you want the freshest in seafood go catch it yourself and someone at AJ's will cook it up for you while you chill with a beer. Stick around till around midnight and the joint starts jumpin' at Bimini the nightclub upstairs.

The year on the Harbor cranks into action in March with the annual Cobia Tournament. You have to spot them, tempt them and then the fight is on.

Spring Break in April starts at Fudpucker's for the world's largest four man volleyball tournament. This is the beginning of Spring Splash with events that run until May.

Love Pirates? Don't miss the Billy Bowlegs festival in June. This weeklong festival is full of treasure hunts, fireworks and a three hundred boat pirate parade.

As the summer winds down the little fishing village heats up. Big game sea hunters converge from all points of the globe for the Open Billfish Tournament. Boat week happens in August too with a sailing regatta, water skiing championships and speedboat racing just to name a few.

My favorite event every October is the Destin Fish Rodeo. Anyone can compete. It runs all month but if all you have is a weekend you can still weigh in. It is a festive fishing that has something for all ages and skills.

The year winds down with a floating Christmas Parade that lights up the harbor.
