bowls.
Light bulbs are great for making cute ornaments like "Doily Light bulb Tree Ornaments" and "Santa Face Light bulb Ornaments". Popsicle sticks can create picture frames, mini animals, mini people, baskets, boxes, and hanging stars. Bottle caps can become fridge magnets, beads, or candle holders. There really is no limit to the ideas available for recycled crafts. The only boundaries are skill, age, and materials.
There are endless books, web sites, magazines, stores, and classes all dealing with craft creation, as well as recycled crafts. Even people who don't consider themselves "crafty" can have loads of fun with these activities, and actually create some cute looking items. Recycled creations really are perfect for low-budget home decor or cheap art projects for large groups, especially kids.
- For a true beginner, there are still some really fun crafts that come out great. Try some of these simpler ideas: -
DRYER SHEET FLOWERS
- These flowers are so easy, always look fantastic, and best of all, last much longer than the real thing. Take a dryer sheet and fold it tightly in and out, like an accordion. Then fold the sheet in half and slip a pipe cleaner along the fold. Twist the pipe cleaner tight, making a stem.
- Pull the folds and layers apart until you have a great flower shape. Mix some dye/paint in water and either slowly paint each tip of the sheet, or dip the tips of the sheet into the color. If the dryer sheet in unscented, try a couple drops of essential oils or perfume to give it that flowery fragrance. Repeat process until desired amount of flowers has been created for a bouquet.
PAPER TOWEL TUBE RAINSTICK
- Take any empty cardboard paper towel tube and tape closed at one end. Use tape that can be easily painted over. For the stick to make "rain" sounds, it must be filled with something like rice, beads, or beans hitting different objects inside the tube at different times. Remember that whatever is created inside must let the smaller materials fall from one end of the stick to the other.
- There can be a couple ways to achieve this inner network. Use cut up berry baskets to lightly stuff the tube before putting in rice or whatever. Try using tissue paper or bubble wrap inside the covering at each end for the rice or whatever to hit. Take a piece of wire and create a spiral to stuff into the tube, but be careful, this technique isn't safe for children.
- Add in rice, beans, and/or beads slowly, testing sound at one end until desired effect is achieved.
