Poetry: Life

I had waited for him as long as I'd lived
And now he was laying in my arms
I thanked God for his choice, was charmed and rejoiced
With the baby he thought fit to give.

He was strong and so sweet, more than I'd dreamed,
And his blankets and eyes were both blue.
He cried and he wailed and in his clenched fist he held,
All my hopes, and the life that I knew.

I vowed, and what's more, I promised and swore,
To keep my boy safe from harm.
He was loved and he'd know it, I was forever devoted,
To this sweet baby wrapped in my arms.
