Reasons for low ratings at Helium

So you thought that article that took you a few days, or even a few hours in some cases, to perfect was great. It should rank at least third. You definitely thought that it was better than the one that ranked 3rd, but it didn't. It is merely in tenth place, and you are consistently ranking on the low end. Why?

There are many reasons why your article may not be as good as you thought it was, some very simple and some not so simple.

1. Did you actually read your article? Did you understand it? Would it make sense to others? Sometimes when you sit down at the computer and start typing, things don't come out on the screen as clear as they did in your head. Read it.

2. Structure is important no matter what you are writing about. Make sure that you have an opening sentence that sounds appealing. Open. Explain. Close. It is very simple and yet some people don't get it. They think that they can just stick anything down on the paper as long as the sentences are correct and it is good. Not true.

3. You should always have paragraphs. Every point or comparison that you make in any writing subject should be separated from the previous with a paragraph.

4. Flow is important as well. Don't jump all over the place when writing about something. Give everything some kind of sequential order. This will make the reader understand the point that you are trying to get across without having to put everything together himself.

5. Don't ever rant and rave. When making your point; make it, explain it and move on.

6. Spelling and grammar are important, but minor for the most part. It is one of the simplest things that you can correct when writing. There is little to no effort on your part, the computer does it for you. So, click the button and fix it.

7. Numbers, should they be spelled out or should I just write the number? There is a general rule, it the number itself is less than two or three syllables, it should be spelled out. Don't write 1, 2, or even 11. It should be one, two, or even eleven.

8. Don't be lazy. If the word should have a capital letter, capitalize it. It there should be a period at the end of that sentence, put one there. Don't ever use all capitals, your just being rude and ignorant.

9. Don't single people out. When writing your article do not talk about other people's article. It's not tasteful. Your focus should be making your article the best one that you can write. Not drawing out someone else's flaws for your own benefit. This
