What should you do when you hate your job? This is the worst thing for someone who has to make a living by working. You go into work, day in and day out. You feel upset, angry, miserable, never smile, and you can't wait to go home at night. The weekend comes and you are happy. Sunday night rolls in and you are cranky, upset, everything bothers you, because you know that you have to go to work the next day. And you hate it. You suffer, your family suffers, and your work suffers, because you don't contribute 100% as everyone else does. So what should you do?
The best way to evaluate why you hate your job, is to keep a log of what goes on at work, day in and day out. Write down what happens, what you have to do, how you deal with a certain situation, what a colleague said that upset you, etc. Keep the journal for a month. Evaluate the reasons why you hate your job. Start a pros and cons list, what you like and what you dislike. Is it the workload that you don't like? Is it your manager, or the people that you work with? Is the job mindless and you feel that you can do more? Or do you do plenty more and you are not being appreciated? Do you feel that you need a raise?
All these things can add up to make you hate your job. Once you start keeping a log, you might find that it's not so bad. On the other hand, if keeping a log doesn't make you feel any better and you still hate your job, then you need to do something about it.
If one of the reasons is that you contribute excessively and not being compensated, then set up some time with your manager and ask for a raise. If you feel that your job is mindless and you can contribute more, ask for some extra assignments. If none of these work, your manager refuses to give you a raise or refuses to give you extra assignments, then the other alternative would be for you to ask HR (Human Resources) to transfer you to another department. In most cases, HR will help the employee to be transferred. In other cases, though, some HR departments, in some companies, will take the manager's side and will not help the employee. When that happens, then, there is only one thing for you to do. Prepare your resume. Start looking for another job. Learn from what you dislike about your current job and apply that to any future companies that you submit your resume. This would be the only way to evaluate if your leaving the current company will help you to enjoy your future job. Otherwise, you can end up in the same situation as your current job.
