There are some of the older high performance cars that definitely required the premium gas over plain old regular and there are some of the high end sports cars that require premium fuel but if you can afford a 100,000+ dollar sports car you probably are not worried about 30 cents more for a gallon of gas. I had a 1967 Plymouth GTX with the 440 Magnum in it and it would NOT run on regular gas. I don't mean it would run poorly either, it just flat wouldn't run, period.
A lot of the turbo charged cars now, the manufacturer recommends premium fuel but I had a 2002 Turbo S Beetle that was supposed to have premium fuel and I mixed the grades and put 60,000 miles on it and it was still going great when I sold it. One time I would fill up with premium, the next time with regular and the next time with mid grade but I never let it get below half a tank. I saved quite a bit of money that way and that Beetle has over 100,00 mile on it now and as far as I know the lady hasn't had any problems and I don't she uses premium in it as much as I did.
All the hype over premium gas is in most cases something else to pad George W and Dicky's pocket so they will be able to afford to move to Dubai with Halliburton when we finally get their dumb butts out of Washington.
