Army Leaflet FM-17-167-90

This leaflet is not to be reproduced or seen by any civilian agency.

FOR US ARMED FORCES EYES ONLY

A new Zombie insurrection could occur at any time, it was only through correct military intervention and procedures that the great Zombie plague of 2011 was thwarted.
This leaflet has been produced to enable you, the well trained and armed soldier to successfully survive a new outbreak.

1. *Signs Of Outbreak And Contamination*

Past lessons have shown that an outbreak can occur anywhere and across several cities simultaneously. Nowhere is safe, be prepared for the possibility of the newly dead rising up and appearing to move autonomously, this is the first major sign. The civilian population will be informed in the first instance to stay inside their homes whilst we, the military, conduct a routine exercise concerning a new outbreak.
CIVILIANS WILL NOT BE TOLD THE TRUTH TO AVOID PANIC.

Contamination occurs naturally for these newly dead, it is still unclear what causes the first stage, but do not assume it has been eradicated. Cross contamination occurs between the dead and living by direct contact only, there is no known case of airborne transfer of this plague AS YET. Only a direct infusion of blood or saliva into a living body will cause the plague to spread across the living / dead divide, ABOVE ALL COSTS, AVOID BEING BITTEN.

2. *Identifying an "Undead" or Zombie*

We must take extreme precautions not to repeat the same mistakes of 2011. Identification of targets is a priority, the random killing of civilians will no longer be tolerated and prosecutions will take place.

The main recognition features to be aware of are:
- The inability to communicate effectively.

- Mottled appearance to skin due to lack of blood flow.

- A stumbling gait, this movement can be rapid in the early stages of contamination but slows down as the victim "ages" due to decaying flesh and muscle tissue.

- Zombies do not blink, this can be seen at a distance through snipers scopes for ranged fire.

- A final and last resort test is to engage a target by single aimed shot to an extremity. The undead feel no pain and will continue on their course, a living civilian being will drop to the floor and possibly scream, do not attempt this scenario in a mixed living/undead environment unless a diversion is necessary.

3. *Special Actions To Ensure Survival*
Work as part of a team, you and the fellow members of your squad will not survive alone. Never patrol an area in groups of 3 or less,
