Search Engine Optimization experts know a little secret: when web crawlers are on the lookout for new content, they tiptoe through pages looking for certain words that would make them worth inclusion in search results. They call them keywords - which are what you type into your own search box when you're looking for some quality information. The results that pop up are not at all random; they're based on the closest content matches to what you've typed in.
The content in your articles helps to determine where your page comes up in internet search results. Pages that have the right words in the right places will come up first, while articles with very few relevant keywords may be at the bottom of the very last page (where no one bothers to look). By strategically weaving certain words into your articles, you can help maximize your exposure on the web, increasing both your number of readers and your earnings. The whole process is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
HOW DO KEYWORDS AFFECT MY EARNINGS? Helium uses Google AdSense to help their authors make money. You'll notice that ads show up on your articles after you've published them - and the ads are somehow related to the content on that page. That's where the keywords come in: Google aims their ads toward the people who are likely to be reading your article.
Some keywords cost advertisers a lot more than others. That's mostly because they're popularly searched words and phrases. The higher the demand for the term, the higher the cost to the advertiser - and the more money you'll make by having people read the articles with those ads displayed.
HOW DO I FIND THE RIGHT KEYWORDS? What you're looking for is a solid, well-searched keyword or phrase. Since Google provides most of the daily bread and butter on Helium, it helps to find out what their most expensive keywords are. There is a step-by-step process to finding out what the most lucrative keywords are, and the best part about it is that it only takes a few minutes.
Step 1: Copy and paste this URL into your address bar (after the https://) adwords.google.com/select/Keyw ordToolExternal?defaultView=3
It may help to save this article as a bookmark so that you won't have to look it up every time you'd like to use these steps.
Step 2: You'll see a white box that says, "Enter one keyword or phrase per line." Type a keyword that somehow relates to an article you'd like to write; try the word "money" for starters. Don't forget to enter the CAPTCHA code
