When starting a home business is a bad idea

All over the world home business appears to be the in thing now. With so much talk about you not achieving financial freedom except you are in business for yourself, people rush to open home businesses as channel for achieving financial freedom. Records show that greater percentage of such businesses close within the first year.

It is a bad idea to start a home business when you lack the basic skills for it. A business does not run itself. It has to be run by you and if you have no skills for it then stay clear and face your 9 5 job until you acquire the necessary skills for a home business.

It is also a bad idea to start a home business if you are always broke. It means you lack good money management skills. You may be thinking that you are always broke and in debt because you do not earn enough from your regular job. But money management is not about how much you earn, rather it is about how much you can save up for investment. You might do well to stay on the job that gives you some income rather than putting your hope on the uncertainties of a new business which will certainly have its initial set backs. Ask the successful home business owners, they will tell you that they paid their prices both in money and time to get to where they are. Some tried two or three different home businesses before finally hitting at the right one. For one who is always broke, where will you get the funds to keep trying one business after another or to even consistently hold unto one through the difficult times until it begins to yield profit?

The worst case is when you have to borrow money to start your home business. Even if the business had any prospects of survival, interests on loans will help to quickly stifle the business. Most successful businesses didn't make profit in the first few years. If you borrow money to start and the profits do not roll in immediately, interest rates will keep mounting up.

It is a bad idea when you have to quit your regular job first before you can start a home business. A better idea should be to hold on to your job while sort of test driving' the home business on part time basis. That way you don't have to worry too much about how to pay the bills if the business does not begin immediately to yield returns.

There are some home businesses that require little or no capital to take off. But when a home business requires a fortune to start, then it is a bad idea. Every business requires some sort of feasibility
