Holiday blues can hit hard, especially if your not ready for them. The first one hit me the year after my Father suddenly passed away. Christmas was his day, and he would often surprise us with a big present for the family, a TV, or a pool table, and one year he bought me a walking doll.
I try to not mope about the holidays that come and go. I made a promise to myself to make donations to different charities. One was to st Jude's Hospital another year I bought shoes for kids. It's something dad would have done. It certainly takes your mind off poor me.
This year I plan to travel more, maybe take a ride on a roller coaster with my Grandson, see my girlfriends from high school and have a weekend just with old friends from other cities. I beat the blues with simple things. I will change a rug color in a bathroom for 6 months. After the Holidays I have my spring rug come out to remind me that Spring is just around the corner. Sound odd? It helps. The little things in life really work. I might change my hair color, my makeup colors, where a new color that I thought I could never wear. I will laugh more, love more, listen more and above all share more of me, my thoughts, my concerns, my dreams, what I'm feeling and so on.
I have a neighbor that I just recently met. She is 86 and still going strong. I am going to call her to just say hi, and let's do lunch. Yes that's what I'm going to do. I think all generations do lunch don't they? Bye for now I'm off to lunch.
