Just like the traditions we share with love ones and friends every
year of our lives, the holiday blues seem to be shared by all as
well. The kids have gone back to school, the house once again is easier
to get organized and no piles of dishes for you to wash every morning.
The holidays,as much as we look forward to them often make us wish we
had taken an extra weeks vacation to recover. The family environment
makes us reflect on how we wish things could be and for most of us,it
is this change that makes us blue.
Going back to work, kids going back to college, the new gifts we received
have already lost their luster. We blame our blues on lots of things
that we just can not get enough of during the year.Being together is
of those things that we do not like to be with out.
There are a few simple things that help us recover from the blues.
(1) Take time to regroup from the events of the holidays, enjoy a little
quiet time to think about all the good positive things that made it so
enjoyable.
(2)Keep your self busy,things you enjoy doing,cross stitching,baking or
taking a simple walk.
(3)If the weather is permitting,do some raking of leaves or gardening in
the green house.
(4)Go out with friends shopping or for a drink to get you out of the house.
Cabin fever needs to be dealt with, when the walls are closing in on you.
(5)Visit someone in the nursing home, the people there are lonely and need
some of the good cheer too.Shut ins in your local neighbor hood, are often
left alone after the holidays, try to be a light in someones life to help
them with blues they have. This will ease yours as well.
These are a few things that I have found that work. They help me get over
the holidays a little quicker,by occupying my time in a constructive manner.
Just remember,no one likes to be alone, anytime!Holidays should be shared and
spent with people we love, whether they live with us or not.
