Advice on emergency preparedness

If you have ever been had to evacuated your home for any reason you understand the importance of being prepared. No one can guarantee the future and I feel it is better to be prepared and not need to be, then not be prepared and wish you had been. Being prepared is simple.

Food:
You need, at least, two weeks worth of food enough for everyone in your house. Then, how are you going to cook it. There might not be gas or electricity. Try to have a combination of things that do and do not have to be cooked.

Water:
Bottled water is essential. Keep a combination of gallon sized water (2 gallons per person)and individual water bottles (3-4 cases) that are full. Make sure that your tub is always clean. In an emergency fill everything with water that will hold it. This is your cleaning and bathing water.

First Aid:
Take a first aid and CPR class, now. Stock a first aid bag and put it where you know where to find it.

Emergency Kit:
One large plastic container that holds a few essentials. A wind up radio is a perfect accessory for your emergency kit. Flashlights with batteries. Blankets.

Other things you can do to be prepared that are everyday chores. Always make sure that your laundry and dishes are done. Have money in your wallet at all times. Make a family plan and discuss it regularly.

Be prepared and stay prepared!
