Over the past years, many people have called the Harry Potter series evil or satanic. However, I really do not think that is true. Pagan, yes, but there are good values and other topics like that which relate to our Christian values.
My problem is people saying just because it involves witchcraft and wizardry means the book is satanic or evil. I believe that the magic the people use is more of a part of the book. It's not trying to teach any certain concept or any moral, it just happens to be a part of the book. Yes, people have come to interpret this book as real magic and it has even become sort of a cult book. But that is in no way Rowling's fault at all. She cannot force herself to be perceived in a certain way. Different people will view her works as different things. To some the book is a way of life, and some it's just entertainment. As for me, the book is just another way to kill time.
The magic in these movies and books is kind of like consciousness and the human heart. There is the bad side, and the good side. Harry and company, such as Dumbledore, Hermione, Ron, Hagrid and the other members of Hogwarts, use the good side. Their spells are only used to defeat evil and save the world. Whereas, Lord Voldemort and other evil doers, most go by the name of death eaters, use it for murder and attempting world domination. There are the only spells that are unforgivable. There are three, to be precise. I am in no way saying, or comparing, these spells, to the one unforgivable sin. But, there are things to choose, roads to walk, and ways to do certain things. A lot like life.
Yes, in the Bible God says magic is evil. But, as I said, magic in Harry Potter is like a main character, it's always there. However, there are other books that contain tons of magic but are never accused of being 'satanic' or 'evil'. Some of these movies and books are The Lord of the Rings, Eragon, and the Chronicles of Narnia. In Lord of the Rings there are things like the Witch King, dragons, wizards, and elves. Also in Eragon there are these same elements. However, in Narnia the magic is used as more of a hidden way. But, it is also very obvious in some places. For instance, when in The Magicians Nephew the children are jumping through things like time portals and different dimensions.
The funny thing, though, is that Narnia is supposed to be one of the most Christian fantasy books, even though C.S. Lewis was just trying to write a good story. Maybe, just maybe it's the same case
