If you seriously think, or if someone seriously suggests you to hire an idea consultant to tell you what sort of home business you should start, it means you have no idea about what home business is all about!

Doing a "conventional business" and doing a "home business" are entirely two different cups of tea. In home business, you are the prime investment. You have to build up the business from scratch and nurture it mostly by virtue of your skills and expertise. You must have the realistic perception about your capabilities vis-a-vis the demand in the market; you can plunge into home business, if you have a grand idea about which your inner voice keeps saying "yes, this will work" or if you have already located a line where others are already tasting success.

After venturing into home business, you may, if situation demands, seek help from consultants in areas like tax issues, accounting, focused marketing strategies, development of your own website etc. They are essentially guides to assist you in your path of travel. Idea consultant on the other hand is someone to advise you where to go at the first place! If you think you need such a guidance even to start a journey, you are rather unfit to travel! If you do not possess the specific skills, expertise, knowledge and preferably some experience in the line of your proposed business, then forget getting into any business, let alone home business.

Does it mean to say idea consultants have no business to be here? Not really; they have their role to play under a different scenario. If you are a an extremely busy (conventional) businessman already, making lots of money and you want to pump in the money into new and lucrative business avenues outside the purview of your current expertise, then you would perhaps need an idea consultant. In such a case, after getting the right idea about the new business line, you will hire and employ competent and knowledgeable persons to work for you and you will just hold the overall financial control and delegate everything else to professionals.

But such is not the case with home business. Home business is mostly a low-profile, adventure-less, less-manpower activity. Until you are stabilized, you have to do most of the drudgery yourself; until you grow to a sufficient level, hiring people and delegating work may not be economical.

Home business, at the best scenario, can grow to a level where running it from home might become too difficult and you may have to move out of home to make it a full fledged business. Even at that juncture, where is the need for "ideas"? You are already successful with your original idea!

If at all the idea of having a idea consultant for home business becomes too popular, a good idea will be to start your home business as an idea consultant!
