Homemade shampoo and conditioner recipes

Hair! We cut it, we style it, we wash it and we damage it. We also spend millions of dollars every year on it. One simple solution, shave it off. Not a feasible solution for all, so look no further for the full homemade, home care money saving techniques available.

Did you know that your hair is actually dead! So let's start at the root of the problem, the scalp. You can nourish and stimulate new hair growth simply by introducing a balanced whole food diet, regular exercise and stress free lifestyle. To give your hair it's best chance, you need to supply it with a good blood flow, so that the 'hair' nutrients - zinc, B complex vitamins and silica - reach the hair follicles.

Let me introduce you to some anti-stress essential oils that can enhance your hairs life. First to the floor is Bergamont, this little oil is uplifting yet calming and is great for the oil slick on your head, which went out of style 40 years ago. Next is Lavender, a good all rounder which can naturally combat that snow cap you have been carrying around with you for the last 5 years (dandruff). Cleansing and calming this oil will be your friend to the end. The next oil to grace our stage is sandalwood, with its relaxing and soothing qualities it blends well with lavender to highlight the most drab of normal hair. And lastly, put your hands together for geranium, with its uplifting qualities it will bring that lifeless dry hair back from the cave men days.

Now, to bring it all together you will need to know what type of hair you have. Let's look at hair types.

OILY HAIR
CHARACTERISTICS: Excessive oiliness, may have dry ends, may lack lustre
ESSENTIAL OILS: Bergamot, Cypress, Lavender, Rosemary

NORMAL HAIR
CHARACTERISTICS: Not dry or oily, shiny appearance
ESSENTIAL OILS: Geranium, Lavender, Sandalwood

DRY HAIR
CHARACTERISTICS: Split ends, fly-away hairs, lacks lustre
ESSENTIAL OILS: Frankincense, Geranium, Lavender, Patchouli

For the shampoo, simply add 2 drops of an essential oil for your hair type into a natural shampoo (1 wash quantity). Natural shampoo can be purchased at the supermarket, look for a shampoo with no added perfumes or oils. Apply to the scalp twice weekly.

For the rinse, simply add 4-6 drops of essential oils to 0.5-1 litre of water. Wash through the hair and leave to dry naturally.

For the hair mask, simply add 3-4 drops of essential oil for your hair type into 10mls of either jojoba oil or sweet almond oil, slightly heated. Massage vigorously into scalp and hair and leave in for 10-20mins. For better results, place plastic glad wrap around hair and cover with a towel. Wash hair normally as above.

Hey presto, your done. Thanks to nature we can all look, feel and smell beautiful. Let's have some fun and invite some girl friends over for a moviepoo, (that's a movie and a shampoo)!
