Ethics in the workplace

Having a strong work ethic is really important in my particular field: customer service. I am the person people talk to when they have questions or complaints about their account with the company I represent. I see personal information and could easily steal this information and commit fraud. Of course I would get caught right away, but I could still do it. Having strong ethics is even more important for me because I work from home office. I have no one to watch what I am doing. My company has a very rigid hiring and employment policy, but that doesn't mean that I couldn't get away with dirty activities! I know what it's like to be caught up in bad office practices and I couldn't do that to someone else if my life depended on it! I believe in earning my money the old fashioned way; work for it. I consider it a priviledge to be trusted with the information I see daily.

I have to be self-motivated. There were days when I worked outside of my home, that I just didn't want to get dressed up and make the drive to work. I had no desire to sit in the break room and listen to others complain about this or that. I am not interested in office politics either. I just wanted to do my job and go home. I didn't enjoy what I was doing, therefore I didn't do the best job I could. I developed lazy habits and my productivity was not good at all. I ended up quitting because I dreaded going to work. Now, I work in my office at home. I am comfortable, motivated, and truly enjoy clocking in for my 8-9 hour shift. I am honest and dependable. I have a stronger work ethic now than I ever have before! I have found it is much easier to truly care about my customers when I am working in my quiet office environment. There are no distractions so I can devote my full attention to my job.

Developing a good work ethic is important whether you are in your home office or someone else's. How you conduct yourself reflects on you and your company.
