Oh the bonus of a mobile. How did we every live without them? The following are ten reasons why these technological wonders have become so important to enable a purposeful and fulfilling life.

1)For communication in cases of emergency. Can you envisage a life where your car has broken down and you have to walk a mile to the nearest telephone? Or a medical emergency when you are out in a remote place with no means of communicating with the emergency services?

2)Talking or texting people who are far away. Keeping in touch with friends and family is important. A simple text message or quick phone call can ensure that they are ok, and also let them know that you are fine as well.

3)Stops worry. Mobiles come in useful if you are delayed on a journey, particularly if you are expected at a certain time and someone may worry if you are late. It also stops you ending up which a cremated dinner.

4)Work on the move. (Not whilst driving). There are times within our working lives when we will be out of the office and in an environment where we cannot keep in touch by normal means, but have a need for an instant response from the office for a resolution of a situation. We may be at a client who needs an immediate decision on some problem. The mobile allows instant access for just that purpose.

5)Convey your feelings. Do you need to tell someone that you love him or her, or that you are sorry, or feel sympathy for him or her? A mobile allows you to do this at those times when it is impossible to be there to say it in person. Similarly if you are feeling lonely if provides you with the opportunity of talking to someone special.

6)Keep in touch with children. When children reach the age when they go out and about, it is comforting for the parents to know that they can keep in touch by mobile.

7)Safety reasons. If there is something that causes you to have fear, like walking through a certain area on your own, the mobile allows security as you can be in contact with a friend, family or the police in seconds.

8)Directional purposes. This aspect is not only useful if you are lost, when its use will enable someone to point you in the right direction. It is also useful for directional purposes in the workplace, especially if the noise around you does not allow for normal or shouted verbal instructions.

9)Spur of the moment. Something funny happening? Mobiles allow you to record it, either in a verbal or photographic form. A record to keep and share with friends.

10)Reporting crime. How often in the prehistoric days before mobiles did people witness crimes only to find that, by the time they had reached the nearest phone and reported it, the perpetrators had escaped?
