When working from home helps both employer and employee

The employer and the employee both benefit when the employee can work from home. It may appear that the employer has to give in to several requirements of the work relationship, but, overall, the employer benefits along with the employee.

Benefits for the employee working at home-

1) Working from home offers a flexible schedule enabling the employee to better balance all of his or her responsibilities, including childcare, care of an aging parent, etc.

2)This scheduling option frees an employee for working at optimal times that best suit his or her work habits. An early-riser or a night-owl can work when the creative juices or energies are at their best levels.

3)The employee working from home has more time and money, due to the savings of not incurring travel time and expense to and from work each day. Thanks to the technology of Fax, Internet, and other electronic devices, working from home or telecommuting is an option for some people in particular fields or industries.

Benefits for the employer whose employee works from home-

1)An employer who arranges for his or her employee to work from home can expect to see employee work production that is comparatively free of the stresses of working away from home. There should be visible improvements in the energy an employee is able to devote to a job if some of the pressures of commuting, distance from children or other dependent family members, and scheduling constraints are reduced. This new-found freedom can, conceivably, result in more productivity and positive results for the employer.

2)This work relationship instills an element of trust in the employer-employee relationship and the employer can benefit from the employee feeling more trusted, empowered, and engaged in the important work of the company.

3)The employer can expect more accountability from the employee who works from home. Thanks to today's available electronic devices, an employee working from home can provide documentation for the work accomplished, customers called-on, sales figures, etc. An employee in a similar position down the hall from the boss, may resent having to provide evidence of effort and results on the job, whereas the employee working away from the office would accept the need for such documentation without question.

Certainly, there are some intricacies to work out in maintaining a successful business in which employees work at home, but there is a significant pay-off for both the employer and the employee.
