Gender inequality in sports

in the middle of these two extremes. This situation reminds me of equal opportunity employment. Unfortunately, because of prejudices that exist in our society, it is necessary, but it really isn't fair. If you think it is talk to the unemployed man or woman that was passed over for a job that they deserved because a less qualified person had to be hired to meet minority hiring requirements. I will admit that this situation is better than what existed before but it is far from perfect. The problem is that people can not be trusted to provide equal opportunities, and no program can be made mandatory that can take every situation into consideration.

Equality is something that women have been fighting for for centuries, not only in sport but in everyday life as well. I agree that every person should have equal opportunities in this world, whether they be male, female, black , white or any other meaningless label that society decides to place upon them. Hopefully the day will come when society is able to function fairly without programs like Title IX that can often do more damage than good in certain situations.

I am a male athlete aspiring to compete at the college level and believe that a female athlete deserves a spot at a school as much as I do, but only if she is as talented as I am. Title IX does not address this and I would be extremely disappointed that I put in so much time and effort only to be passed over because I am a man. But I would also be disappointed if I was a female athlete being passed over for a less talented male athlete that could bring in the money. This is a no win situation, without Title IX female athletes are treated unfairly, with it male athletes can often be treated unfairly. Equality in both sports and everyday life is something that is worth working toward, unfortunately I belive these efforts are in vain because it is almost impossible to change the opinions of people that have been brought up to believe that they are better than everyone else who is different than they are. These people will raise their children in the same manner and the trend will continue indefinitely. Title IX is a good starting point but a lot of work still needs to be done.
