HOW TO SAY GOODBYE
Too many stars out in the sky, too beautiful to share alone
As the nights go passing by, wishing you were home
The day we had to say goodbye, we'd chosen different roads
We had a love we couldn't deny, the memories on hold
Holding back the tears, I can only try
You're the only one who makes me man enough to cry
Somewhere inside a flame still burns, someday this dove will fly
All I really need to learn, is how to say goodbye
A castle built on hopes and dreams
We'll "take it as it comes" we always agreed
A work in progress taking shape
After all, we had the promises we had made
Planning was for fools, who couldn't embrace the moment's gift
But time has a funny way of causing dreams to drift
We assumed everything would work itself out in time
But reality seems to be the unpunishable crime
A hundred "Hollywood" endings, a thousand worn cliche's
It doesn't matter who slipped first, the magic was betrayed
The happy endings and revelations that we had so adored
Torn by ghosts of failures past that were left on the editing room floor
Next time I try to reinvent myself, rather than fit into someone else's mold
I'll harness that flame inside and ensure it flickers within my control
I'll dance naked on my pedestal and allow the doubters to pass on by
As soon as I can figure out how to say goodbye
