Poetry: Dreams

Sinking deeper into my dreams.....

Sleep deprived and restless
My eyelids softly close
Blanketing me like a canopy over glistening stars
In hopes of unlocking a garden of swaying secrets
To a mysterious land
Where senseless thoughts roam free with glee
Sinking
Deeper
And deeper
Into my dreams....

Pale sands ferociously lap upon a pebbled ocean
Calming the shrieks of cawing gulls

I lay on a bed of entangled vines
Contently stretched out like an overzealous Oak
Finger tapping my cigarette
Scattering ashes across the universe
Welcoming the magic to come
Sinking deeper into my dreams.....

Enormous cascades reach down and touch the tip of my nose
Kissing my sunburned skin
Cold as ice
They cause a shiver throughout my inner warmth
What an absurd thing to feel in the heart of summer
I ponder this as an umbrella hovers across the horizon
Contained in a thunderstorm
What could the color yellow be doing on my umbrella?
A glowing fireball of the magic to come
Rambunctious kids playing hop scotch stop and stare
My face flushes red
As they laugh hysterically
Rolling around on cracked pavement
Enveloped in joy
I press my head between bony knees
Trying to hide from scrutiny
Sinking deeper into my dreams....

Palm trees brush stroke upon a blank canvas
Swirling colors ignite into orange and green kitchen chairs
I begin to cry, crumbling a cheerio, kicking and screaming on my floor
I want that cookie so badly
Mom doesn't understand
I hate her
She shakes with frustration
Arms stretched
Her beauty transforms
Before me stands a giant retro plaid spider
She jumps on me but doesn't bite
Eighteen eyes engaged in deep conflict
A soft sensation passes through my gaping mouth
Fear drifts away like exhaled smoke
Sinking deeper into my dreams.....

I fall through my vinyl floor
Shattering a crystal sky
Falling into nowhere particular
I close my eyes, relaxed
A horrid smell drives through my senses
Unwashed dishes and heaping piles of garbage
I open my green eyes
My unshaven face stares back
Contained in a mirror gripping a bottle of gold rum
Cigarette butts scattered across a torn red carpet
Some burning, some dead
Each swig aids in healing
Covering old scars
A tucked away picture of a tanned brunette hurts the most
Sinking deeper into my dreams.....

She kisses me, making me feel like I have succeeded
She is amazing, her perfect hair brushes against my cheek
I slowly pull it back and kiss her neck
She says she loves me
I want to keep her forever
Yet somehow she seems compelled to go
Her body drifts through my fingers
Like golden sand
Trapped within a swirling wind
I grab at her desperately
Battling against fate
Unable to hold on
Sinking deeper into my dreams.....

An intrusive knocking echoes from somewhere alien
Giant hands latching on
Pulling me away
I twitch
The suns harsh rays shoot through my blinds
A melodic ringing stirs silence
I wearily open my eyes
Sadistic red embers flash
8 O'clock
