Game website reviews: Pogo.com

Pogo is the epitome of mindless games. Don't get me wrong, I've been a paying member of pogo for over 4 years. I've got my list of favorites and have even wasted money on buying many of the extra badge books available. But the games you can pretty much do in your sleep.

Pogo is the only site I know that makes their games as easy as can be. Their card games are ridiculous in all the special variations that make playing way too easy. Competition is certainly not something pogo has ever given any thought to.

I can't even begin to count how many games that have been changed to be easier than their original release. For example, the classic solitaire game originally came out like how we're all used to playing. The cards get dealt, you flip 3 cards over at a time and can go through the stack as often as you like in hopes of winning the game. The revision of this was to add bonus cards which would do things like reveal all the hidden cards not yet turned over, to shuffle your deck of the cards you're flipping 3 over at a time, or to force pull the next card in the sequence of the foundation stacks.

Many of the games offer badges that can be awarded. I think most, like myself have resigned themselves to just collecting these badges which have little meaning than a used postage stamp in a collector's book. Pogo does offer the chance to win prizes as well as up to $4999.00 in cash. I think with all the skepticism of folks playing and not believing that there are any REAL winners of the prizes, pogo less than a year ago changed the game rooms to show winners of prizes in the chat scroll area. But as I know of no one personally who has ever won, I still will never know for certain that my paid membership will ever be worth more than the badges I collect in games.

The majority of pogo games are what I like to call mindless games, very few actually require much skill and you just do the same thing over and over and over again. It does offer a great way to unwind, but is geared for the more casual game player. There is nothing difficult about these games.

Pogo also promotes many of the down-loadable games that offer free trials as well as PopCap games. Outside of yahoo, this is my favorite source for finding new games to play for those times when I can't get onto the Internet. Pogo has also begun to offer PogoToGo games. These games can be purchased and downloaded and will even accrue tokens while offline to be credited to your pogo account.

Pogo offers games for all types of interest. There are card games such as spades and canasta. There are board games such as backgammon or chess. There are solitaire games like Aces Up and Free Cell. There are sport games such as Pool, Basketball or Football games. There are puzzle games like Jigsaw Detective. There are arcade games like Spin & Win, which is a new release. You name it and there is a game that will appeal to your gaming interests.
