I guess I am a different type of Ordained Minister. I have not always believed that gays and lesbians should be able to marry. In fact, I felt for a long time that God only recognized marriages between the two different genders. I felt like this for such a long time that I started believing that I actually believed it.

Then one day it hit me. Why do I want to be part of a thinking bunch of people who do not want complete and total happiness in EVERYONE'S lives? Why did I, for such a very long time, believe that happiness was set aside for only those whose parts mechanically fit? It just seemed like a very odd thing to me that a woman could be married to a man who might beat her, who might cheat on her, who might do an entire laundry list of horrible things to her and other people, but as long as she was a female and he was a male, God would see that as being right.

On the other hand, what seemed even more peculiar is that there is an entire population of people who walk the crust of this planet who are very much in love, who own property and pets together, who want to love and raise children, who want the American dream, who are fine and upstanding citizens who pay their taxes and don't bother their neighbors by walking outside to fetch the paper in their underwear, and who also happen to live alternatively. Alternatively is a funny word that is sort of a generic way of saying "unacceptable" without saying the actual word. What, I wonder, is so unacceptable to the rest of "correct" and polite society about two people who happen to be of sound mind and age enough to make the conscious choice to be committed to another person who is also of this same mindset and same gender? Who made all of us "breeders" so much better at choosing what is right for the rest of society, so much so, so as to make it wrong for two consenting adults to fall in love with each other, regardless of gender? Who are we, those whose parts fit mechanically, to judge another group of people for simply wanting all of the American dream to apply to them - all of them, regardless of the way that they choose to love another person?

We as a society have become so judgmental in the way that we see one another that a lot of the ills we see in the world today are more perception of one person in power projecting their own limited thinking onto those who have a sheep mentality. So many people believe that what is supposed to be a private affair is somehow the business of every person, and
