Novel excerpts: Romance

It was dark as she drove up the mountain road the yellow glow from her headlights spilling across it. There was a full moon she loved these nights driving home with the blue ethereal light beaming down on her from above. Sometimes when she felt daring she would turn her headlights off and drive with nothing but the moon to light her way.

She slowed the car and looked to her right to admire the city lights twinkling down below, it was a breath-taking site every time she saw them. It reminded her that life kept moving even when it was so quiet here that time seemed to stand still.

She drove over the rolling hills and remembered why she had named them the roller-coaster hills as he slowed the car to a reasonable speed just before the bottom she let off the break to let the car gather enough speed to help climb the steep hill on the other side.

When she reached the top she made the long curve past hang-gliders look out that lead to the locked gate. The community wanted privacy well she didn't know how much more private it could get up here.

She hated having to get out of her car to open it even on nights like this with the moon shining bright above her she felt eyes watching her.

In her mind she could see the night hunters out preying on small creatures to fill their bellies for the day to come.

Sighing she stopped the car got out and walked up to the gate and, keyed in the combination.

Suddenly she heard the snap of a twig on her left something was there in the sage just off the side of the road. She froze listening and waiting she held the end of the large gate in her hand as she scanned the sage for a sign of what was out there.

The Large sage bush just below the side of the road rustled gently then she herd an ominous hiss. Oh god it was a cat, panic sank in as realization hit, her she saw the predators eyes illuminated by the headlights on her Subaru the Erie green glow made her shiver she waited holding perfectly still hoping that the cat would think she was to big to take chances on.

No such luck she thought as the cat sprang out of the darkness towards her instinct took over.

she screamed and shoved the gate at the cat she heard it hit the cat as she made a mad dash for her car, just when she thought she might make it something hit her leg spinning and knocking her to the ground. She rolled over just in time to see the feral beast blood lust and triumph in its eyes lunge for her.

She covered her head and waited for the impact
