Snakes in the garden environment

Snakes in Florida gardens. I always advise other gardeners to spray down your gardens when your going in. Snakes hate water or any abrupt sudden change. You listen closely and hear those snakes getting out of garden town.

Chicken wire around base fencing is best to use, this chicken wire would be 1 X 1 squares. A bit expensive but worth every effort if your scared of snakes or get mortified.

Although those who don't mind snakes know that snakes benefit all aspects in gardens. Pest problems are gone if you have snakes in gardens, especially rabbits (rabbits don't keep young near snake infestations). Other critters like mice or rats don't share snake space either.

Interesting point on this subject, over 2000 snakes locally visit gardens. If you don't know if your garden is snake happy, look for skin sheds or eggs (live birth and egg birth are typical from snakes). Some snakes hunt underground or above ground.

It's best to leave snakes alone, if a snake is active you will never know till you walk near it or not. If you desire pest removal (snakes), hire a snake rounder. In all turns of the key, snakes are independent and human interaction is not warranted. Don't try to move or touch snakes.

If you have gardens, protect them with chicken wire to avoid snakes, also dig away two feet in ground and add wire for better control. It sounds like more work than what it's worth. I know some gardens down here have no protection at all, and I see children playing off in them. It's all about who the gardener is and how that gardener reacts to snakes.
