Generally speaking, customers never enter a home based business. Most home based businesses are not "walk-in" establishments. The business is conducted on the Internet, over the phone, or the business owner brings the product or service to the customer. Image consultants are widely considered an unnecessary expense for home businesses.

Home based businesses often create their image virtually. Websites, brochures, advertisements, and world of mouth, create an image of your home based business without the customer ever stepping foot in your home. Assistance in creating your virtual image may be necessary in the form of an efficient web design, an effective brochure layout, or an eye catching advertising campaign, but in many cases this can be done by the business owner themselves. In those instances when additional assistance is require, the business owner need not hire an image consultant, but employ the use of a website designer, or a layout designer for advertisements and brochures.

Should your home business expand and leave your home for a retail location, the needs of your business may change. An image consultant may be beneficial in this instance. Until that point, do as much of the work that you can yourself, or with the aide of competent friends and family.

Home businesses, without a doubt, are one of the most difficult ventures one can undertake. The dream of setting your own hours turns into the nightmare of never having a spare moment. Though, through careful planning and determination business owners can create a good image for their company without the need to hire an image consultant.
