Assessing Wal-Mart pharmacy prices and services

Assessing Wal-Mart Pharmacy Prices and Services

I have never purchased my prescription drugs from Walmart due to the long lines and the zoo atmosphere found in every one I've ever shopped at. I actually call it "Wally World". I am however excited to learn that those who are on a limited income and are on medications, that they cannot stop taking abruptly due to adverse or fatal reactions from doing so, are able to purchase them at an affordable price.

Medicare / Medicaid and the privatized pharmaceutical insurance companies that now control those premiums and co-pays do not cover much of anything unless you are dead or dying. For example, my day medications were a $20 co-pay for a 30 day supply, (normally $269) but my night time medications that are $438 without insurance for a 30 day supply were $175. In addition, I had to pay $15.75/mo in premium for the prescriptions insurance and another $89 premium for the major medical.

On one hand I am very relieved to see Walmart offer a prescription savings to those who only receive $500-$750 per month to live on and must pay the high premiums for the prescription insurance and the major medical, as I know first hand how impossible it is to live on the benefit amount you are given. They are also a global mega corporation that buys their products in bulk and they utilize their buying power everywhere they have retail outlets to sell it.

On the other hand, I am concerned as there is a reason for offering medications and other products and merchandise for so little money. Don't you wonder WHERE they actually buy their medications and why they can offer them for so little?

They have bought out small retail companies, and terminate the employees as they do not recognize the standing labor contracts. Their replacement employees are paid the base minimum with only 36 hours per week, so they do not have to cover benefits for these employees either. They have a right to work' policy that says they can terminate your employment for any reason at any time and they invade your privacy during the interview process without your permission.

While in their employ, they want to control what you do outside of work and do not hesitate to record you or have you followed.. I have seen it happen to more than one person. They don't care about families or people and a lot of their merchandise is purchased in China, Malaysia, Mexico and other third world countries that kids as young as 7 years old produce their products for little or no pay at
