This was the game. I had been anticipating watching this game for over a week. I wanted the Patriots to win and quite naturally, I thought they had it made in the shade. The relationship between Brady and Moss took stimulation to another level. Can you imagine my surprise when the Giants really answered the challenge and played well? This was the "best" I had ever seen Eli Manning play. I have not always been a die hard football fan. In the time span of less than a year, I started getting deeper and deeper into the world of football. I enjoyed the games immensely without having a particular team to "root for". I appreciated the athletics of the game. The evasive running excited me. I cheered for each team. Some of the plays were completely puzzling to me. I did not see their effectiveness at all, unless they were being utilized to throw the opposing team off for the next play. Touchdowns yielded short term victory performances and everybody that scored a touchdown had their own unique style of celebrating in the end zone.
I also allowed myself to scrutinize the uniforms for design and color compatibility. I don't know if that was the female or artist in me in charge of that function. The games were made more interesting by extreme weather conditions and the ability or lack thereof, of the teams to play. In addition to injured players, calls being made by the referees, and a host of other factors being contributed to the game, watching the fans was the icing on the cake. Their loyalty and devotion, no matter what happened, was all so inspiring. They felt their teams. They knew their strengths and weaknesses and they delighted themselves in the rivalry.
In the end, I will have to liken this ever so important game to my pie crust. You ask, "How is that possible?" It was a couple of days before the game that I discovered the recipe to make my pie crust flakier. My pie crust was now perfect. Any pie I made would now have the benefit of being perfect with that buttery flaky crust. It took a little time to get to perfection though. Minor adjustments were continuously made, while the end results had the final say. So when a recipe appeared that could end the search for the perfect pie crust, there was much elation in the air. The ingredients came together and formed the best dough that was ever baked in my kitchen. It felt completely different. It felt like a winner. And as it held the shape of every crevice and line in the aluminum pie pan, it yearned for me to do as I would with it. It became the total medium for me to work with and I knew success was on the horizon.
I was not disappointed at all. The golden brown, buttery flaky crust lent itself to perfection in sight, taste, touch and smell. I had waited years for that moment and it finally arrived. And while I was only able to see and hear the game, I knew it was perfection when the last minute ran on the clock. The Patriots did not disappoint their fans and they gave them exactly what they wanted and needed. The fans knew they now had perfection to take them through the next year and on to the next game. In that respect, the fans and I dined sufficiently.
