One thing you must know, to start with, it that starting a "Business" and starting a "Home Business" are two different things. You are into business to make money that is fundamental, no doubt. But besides money, there are several things that you should be clear about before venturing into Home business.
Consider the following points carefully:
1) IF YOU LACK EXPERTISE OR EXPERIENCE:
If you do not possess the specific skills, expertise, knowledge and preferably some experience in the line of your proposed business, then forget getting into any business, let alone Home business.
In home business, YOU are the prime investment. You have to build up the business from scratch and nurture it mostly by virtue of YOUR skills and expertise. You must have the realistic perception about your capabilities vis-vis the demand in the market and you should not plunge in based on hopes and dreams rather than reality.
2) IF YOU HAVE NO FINANCIAL STRENGTH:
If you do not have the financial strength to withstand the possible loss or absence of revenue during the initial periods of business, then it is a road with huge pot-holes. If you think you can manage with borrowed money, I would strongly term it a bad idea.
3) IF YOU ALREADY HAVE HEAVY DEBTS:
If you already have certain loan repayment commitments (say a housing loan, a Car loan and so on), It would be a slippery idea to start any venture at this juncture on your own.
4) IF YOU ARE THE LONE BREAD-WINNER:
If you are the only bread-winner in the family or if you do you have a spouse who does not have independent income, then too it is risky to venture into your home business.
5) IF TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGES ARE TOO FREQUENT:
If the line of Home Business you have chosen has the vulnerability to get swept fast by frequent changes in Technology and if you are not smart enough, vigilant enough and enthusiastic enough to adapt yourself quickly to the changing ground realities, then think thrice before starting your Home business. Likewise look out whether in your chosen line, customers' tastes, whims and fancies are likely to change too frequently.
In IT related business line the danger of obsolescence will constantly be lurking behind your back. There is a saying : "You have to keep running in order to stay at one place!".
6)IF YOU ARE A HI-FLIER:
If you are the type who loves 5-star Culture, enjoys grand Sales Conferences at Hill resorts, or a wannabe globe trotter dreaming of managing an international business, home business will not suit
