Ringing in the New Year with realistic goals allows a person to move away from those feelings of guilt and failure experienced during the past year, and to focus on the promise and expectation of success that the future holds. There is certain excitement experienced in the making of New Year's resolutions when one is caught up in the emotionalism of the moment. Clear thinking and careful planning will result in the success every person seeks.
Past failures seem to turn into a "I will do better next year" mentality. Making an unattainable goal sets up a person for certain failure without exception just as last year's resolutions did. The guilt associated with not being able to reach the goal or accomplish what is planned tends to haunt the individual through out the rest of the year once failure is realized. Self - esteem generally falls and all motivation to succeed is lost.
Making a realistic goal provides an opportunity for success and guards against failure. However, because a goal is realistic, it does not guarantee the wanted success. To succeed, a person must first determine if the goal is attainable. There are certain questions that should be asked. Are the physical capabilities possessed to accomplish what is planned? What will be the cost financially? What must be sacrificed in order to be able to succeed? Once these questions are answered honestly, success becomes reality.
The exhilaration of keeping and accomplishing a New Year's resolution can be the lift a person needs to soar to new heights. Take the time to plan your New Year's resolutions for success. Ring in your New Year with goals that are realistic, ones that you can actually accomplish and enjoy the ride. Happy New Years!
